What are the school hours at HMS?
- 8:00 A.M. - Supervision Begins in the Cafeteria or Gym Area Breakfast is available for purchase
- 8:20 A.M. - Bell Rings - Can Enter Hallways
- 8:30 A.M. - School Begins
- 4:00 P.M. - Dismissal
How do I get my locker and textbooks?
Most of our textbooks are available online. If your class requires a hardcopy of the textbook, it will be distributed during the first 2 weeks of school. Since we give out very few textbooks we do not use hallway lockers. If after the first 2 weeks of school, you feel like you need a hallway locker talk to your Huddle teacher or come to the front office and the AP’s Secretary will issue a locker. PE and Band lockers already contain combination locks. For PE and Non-Competitive Tennis, you will need to wear appropriate apparel and tennis shoes. Check with your coaches for required dress in Athletics. Please do not worry about having these items on the first day.
Are backpacks and purses allowed on campus?
Backpacks are allowed in class, but you need to keep them out of classroom aisles.
What is the cell phone policy?
Cell phones need to be turned off and in your backpack as you enter the building each morning. If a student needs phone access they can ask to use the phone in their teacher’s classroom or come to the office and request to use the phone.
What is a Hillwood planner?
We strongly encourage students to utilize a planner. Hillwood Avid Students will purchase a $5 planner from their instructor. Others may utilize any brand they choose.
What immunizations are required to enter 7 th or 8 th grade?
Check Keller ISD’s website for the most current immunization requirements at: www.kellerisd.net, then select: • Health Services -> o Immunizations ****Additional immunizations are required for all incoming 7 th grade students****
What do I do if I need medication during the school day?
Parents must turn ALL medication into the nurse’s office and complete a medication authorization form. Prescription medication needs to be in its original packaging with a label. Students may NOT carry any medication with them.

How is information communicated?
All school messages will be sent by weekly email. HMS does not send paper flyers home with information.
What are the library rules about checking out books?
You can check out 2 books at a time. Books can be checked out for 2 weeks. Late fines are 10 cents per day.
Can I purchase a school lunch?
Students can bring their own lunch or choose to purchase lunch (or breakfast) from the cafeteria. See KISD District Web Site for more information. (Students & Families – Child Nutrition Services).
Can I ride a bus?
Contact Transportation Bus Dispatch at 817-744-1300. Have your student’s ID number available.
What if I have questions about Athletics?

Do I need a physical for PE Class?
Only students taking Athletics and Competitive Tennis will be required to have a yearly physical to participate. Go to Hillwood’s web site and find a link on the athletics tab for a copy.
What If I have a question about attendance?
To report a student absence on the same day, call the attendance office at 817-744-3440. If arriving late or leaving early for a doctor’s appointment, turn the doctor’s note in the front office upon arrival or return to school. Accepted parent documentation of other absences during the current school year include a written note, phone call, email to Glenda.Taylor@keller isd.net . If you received a phone call or email stating your student was absent, but he/she was at school: 1. View the student’s attendance in Aeries to determine the period(s) in question. Determine the student’s location when attendance was taken. 2. Students may pick up an Attendance Correction Form in the front office, have it signed and return to the attendance office, by their teacher 3. Or, the teacher may be contacted by email for clarification and corrections will be emailed to the attendance clerk.
What do I need to do if my child arrives late or needs to leave early from school?
A parent/guardian will need to show his/her driver’s license EVERY time they are picking up the student during the school day. Only parents/guardians and emergency contacts are able to pick students up. If you need to make changes, please fill out the Student Information Update Form found in the main office or counseling office.
How do I request homework if my child is absent?
Please communicate with your teachers about your child’s absence(s) so s/he can make up their work. If you are absent for two full days you can put in a request before 8:30 am with the front office and you can pick up school work after 3:00 pm.
What is Off-Campus PE?
Keller ISD offers an Off-Campus PE program for students as a substitution for their physical education courses. Keller ISD offers two program choices: • Category 1 involves a minimum of fifteen hours per week of highly intense, professionally supervised training. • Category 2 requires a minimum of ten hours per week of supervised training by appropriately trained instructors Applications are available in the Counseling Office.
